Snowshoe hike to Birgitzköpfl near Innsbruck

We meet at 09:45 at the “Birgitzer Alm” bus stop, just above Adelshof on the road to Axamer Lizum. From here, we immediately enter deeply snow-covered forest and follow a path uphill. After a while, we reach the Hüttenboden, where the forest gradually begins to open. We then climb across a broad forest clearing to Birgitzer Alm, the first destination of our tour.

After a breather and an optional snack, we continue uphill on snowshoes. As the mountain forest becomes increasingly open, the panorama expands until Birgitzköpfl rewards us with magnificent views in every direction. The impressive Nockspitze rises to the south, while the Kalkkögel and the Axamer Lizum ski area lie to the east. The view stretches across the Inntal to Innsbruck, framed to the north by the Karwendel and Wetterstein ranges, with the Zugspitze as a highlight.

Our descent more or less follows the ascent route, with the Zugspitze ahead of us as we return to Birgitzer Alm. Depending on the group’s wishes, we can enjoy excellent Tyrolean cuisine here before making our final return to the starting point.
