Difficulty Scale for Our Guided Hiking Tours
About the Difficulty Scale
Our tours are divided into five difficulty levels.
Level 1 has the lowest requirements, while Level 5 challenges even experienced mountain hikers. The difficulty level is an overall assessment of the tour and broadly follows the categories below. If a tour has special requirements or differs from our standard levels, this is clearly stated in the introduction to the tour description.
Difficulty 1 of 5
Ascent up to approx. 250 vertical metres
Distance up to approx. 4 kilometres
Walking time up to approx. 2 hours
Easiest hikes. Mostly wide paths across generally flat terrain, without exposed sections.
Difficulty 2 of 5
Ascent up to approx. 500 vertical metres
Distance up to approx. 8 kilometres
Walking time up to approx. 4 hours
Hikes on narrow trails with some initial challenges. Tours may include sloping and steep sections, and sure-footedness may be required on roots or rocky passages.
Difficulty 3 of 5
Ascent up to approx. 800 vertical metres
Distance up to approx. 12 kilometres
Walking time up to approx. 6 hours
More demanding hikes on distinctly alpine trails. Exposed sections may occur, and a degree of sure-footedness is essential.
Difficulty 4 of 5
Ascent up to approx. 1,200 vertical metres
Distance up to approx. 18 kilometres
Walking time up to approx. 8 hours
Demanding hikes on alpine trails. Tours include sloping and steep sections, sometimes in exposed terrain. Sure-footedness on all surfaces is required.
